    PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Supervises garage staff, ensuring safe and efficient operations.
    • Responsible for assigning service/repair to subordinate staff and evaluating completed work; scheduling fleet vehicles/equipment for maintenance/repair at specified intervals.
    • Responsible for initiating and maintaining work orders and records using a Fleet Management System.
    • Responsible for developing/implementing safety/training programs for subordinate staff.
    • Coordinates emergency repair needs with scheduled service/repair activities to minimize down time for critical vehicles/equipment.
    • Monitoring parts/supplies procurement/inventory control.
    • Conducts road tests of repaired vehicles as needed.
    • May assist in bid specifications for vehicles, parts and equipment.
    • Monitors the inventory of tools and equipment.
    • Coordinates the inspection of district vehicles with State of Arizona regulatory officials.
    • Evaluates district vehicles and advises repair vs. replacement.
    • Ensures all work areas are maintained properly.
    • Performs related duties as assigned.


    KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
    • Knowledge of tools, equipment, methods and practices used to inspect, diagnose, maintain and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and electronic systems on a wide variety of automotive and equipment.
    • Demonstrate general proficiency in computer programs such as Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
    • Working knowledge of welding and fabrication.
    • Ability to operate standard office and computer equipment.
    • Ability to operate various motor vehicles and operate a forklift.
    • Ability to supervise and train staff.
    • Ability to positively communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
    • Ability to apply common sense understanding to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations.
    • Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with staff, and community members.
    • Perform all duties in accordance with district procedures and policies.


    QUALIFICATIONS
    • High School Diploma or equivalent
    • Five years previous vehicle mechanic journey level experience acquired in or after 1996. An accredited automotive/diesel program may substitute for experience on a month-for-month basis up to four years
    • Previous supervisory experience preferred
    • Master level ASE or vehicle manufacture certification preferred
    • Any equivalent combination of training, education and experience that meets minimum requirements

    WORK ENVIRONMENT
    Indoor shop environment and outdoors in all weather conditions; exposure to extreme temperatures, dust, noise and fumes; possible exposure to hazardous substances. Will have contact with students, employees and the public.

    $ 25.14/hour (ASRS Retirees will have a lower hourly rate due to the Alternate Contribution Rate)

    12 Month position - 8 hours/day
