    POSITION SUMMARY
    Under the general supervision of the Facilities Manager, performs maintenance and repair of improved and unimproved district grounds to visually enhance exterior appearance, functionality and safety.

    PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Operates heavy equipment and machinery to perform trenching, excavation, grinding and demolition of asphalt and concrete surfaces, or removal of spoils.
    • Loads, picks up, delivers and operates heavy equipment throughout the District.
    • Repairs irrigation systems as needed. Adjusts and replaces timers and automated components.
    • Augments duties of site groundskeepers by irrigating and fertilizing lawn areas when workloads dictate.
    • Provides on site direction and advice in the care of plants for desired growth and appearance.
    • Operates various motorized and hand tools related to mixing and placing concrete, patching and repairing asphalt surfaces, and landscaping duties.
    • Provides on site assistance and advice for athletic field layout and other athletic and outdoor school events.
    • Assists site personnel in the maintenance or correction of specific problems by providing assistance in mowing, trimming, and pruning.
    • Performs related duties as assigned.

    KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
    • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
    • Knowledge of concrete and asphaltic materials and associated methods and procedures.
    • Knowledge of accepted grounds maintenance procedures and methods.
    • Knowledge of various plant/weed varieties.
    • Knowledge of irrigation systems.
    • Ability to interact positively with students and staff.
    • Ability to apply common sense understanding to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations.
    • Ability to work safely, cooperatively and courteously with students and staff.
    • Knowledge of applicable Federal and State laws, district procedures and Board policies.
    • Skill in operating heavy motorized equipment and hand tools in a safe manner.

    QUALIFICATIONS
    • High School Diploma or equivalent
    • Class A Commercial Drivers License (Arizona, (tandem endorsement))
    • 4 years previous heavy equipment operation, grounds maintenance and irrigation systems experience
    • Successful completion of Arizona Structural Pest Control Commission Application of Herbicide Certification course within 6 months of hire
    • Any equivalent combination of training, education and experience that meets minimum requirements

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to use hands, arms and legs and is constantly required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, push, pull and walk. The employee may be required to lift up to 100 pounds.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT
    Work is outdoors, with exposure to all weather conditions and temperatures. Exposure to herbicides, heights, moving components, noise, dust, gas and fumes. Contact with employees, students and public.

    $19.59/hour - 12 Month position - 8 hours/day
