    POSITION SUMMARY
    Plans, coordinates, and manages assigned grounds functions for the Marana Unified School Districts Facilities Management Department; directs grounds personnel for repairs and maintenance of District grounds; conducts facilities inspections and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements.

    PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Plans, assigns, inspects and supervises maintenance, repair and construction activities related to grounds systems and operations.
    • Performs work on equipment or components to ensure proper systems operations.
    • Manages and coordinates assigned work through the Districts work order system (SchoolDude) and preventative maintenance program as well as facilities inspections associated to grounds systems and their operations.
    • Assists in ensuring the Districts facilities grounds and equipment are safely and properly maintained for use by employees, students and the public.
    • Trains, supervises, and evaluates the performance of assigned personnel; ensures staff compliance with departmental policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, and safety practices.
    • Administers the Departments Facilities Grounds preventative maintenance program; schedules, coordinates, and supervises related maintenance activities.
    • Conducts facility grounds inspections and monitors for compliance
    • Identifies grounds maintenance deficiencies; evaluates and incorporates maintenance requirements into short and long-range plans.
    • Communicates with District departments regarding maintenance requirements; evaluates maintenance requests for validity and feasibility.
    • Coordinates and communicates with administrators, contractors, vendors, and onsite personnel regarding the maintenance, repair, and replacement of grounds equipment, systems, and/or components.
    • Prepares and maintains a variety of maintenance related records, reports, and documentation including contract specifications.
    • Performs other duties as assigned or required.


    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Required Knowledge of:
    • Comprehensive knowledge of methods, materials and equipment used in installing, repairing and maintaining trees, turf, ornamentals, weeds, plants, concrete/asphaltic materials, irrigation systems, tree and bush trimming, knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of work
    • Ability to exercise independent judgment in determining operating conditions; ability to plan, lay out, supervise and inspect the work of subordinates
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees.
    • Knowledge of applicable Federal and State laws, district procedures and Board policies.
    Required Skills:
    • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, including email.
    • Supervise, manage and coordinates assigned facilities grounds maintenance functions.
    • Proficiency of standard office software applications, such as but not limited to Word, Excel, etc., for business planning, and work scheduling.
    • Supervise, lead and delegate tasks and authority safely.
    • Ability to interact positively and professionally with students and staff.
    • Ability to apply common sense understanding to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations.

    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to use hands, arms and legs and is constantly required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, push, pull and walk. The employee may be required to lift up to 100 pounds.

    Education and Experience:
    • Associates Degree in Landscape Design or agriculture and Land management or related field, and three years experience managing facilities grounds activities; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • 4 years previous heavy equipment operation, grounds maintenance and irrigation systems experience
    • Five years of Supervisory experience
    • Successful completion of Arizona Structural Pest Control Commission Application of Herbicide Certification course within 6 months of hire
    • Any equivalent combination of training, education and experience that meets minimum requirements

    Required Licenses and Certifications:
    • Forklift Operators License.
    • Valid Arizona Class A Commercial Drivers License (tandem endorsement)
