    POSITION SUMMARY
    Assists the teachers in providing a well-organized, smoothly functioning class environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional programs and available learning materials.

    PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Assists individual or groups of students in performing assignments per teachers guidelines.
    • Explains and reviews lesson assignments.
    • Prepares for daily classroom activities (lesson plans, instructional games, etc.) through joint and cooperative advanced planning with supervising teacher. Prepares needed materials and supplies.
    • Assists individual students in need of special attention.
    • May develop and implement specific lesson plans at teachers request in all subjects, per the curriculum guide. Provides limited instruction or tutoring to students as assigned.
    • May assist teacher in parent/teacher/staff conferences as required.
    • Assists in preparation of bulletin boards and various classroom theme decorations throughout the school year.
    • Monitors student behavior, assisting in disciplinary measures as needed. Models appropriate behavior at all times.
    • Attends instructional classes and workshops for professional development and improvement.
    • May assist in implementing instructional plans for individual students or groups of students to meet IEP (Individualized Education Plan) objectives as required by law.
    • Performs other clerical duties as assigned (filing, copying, etc.).
    • Performs related duties as assigned.

    KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
    • Knowledge of general clerical functions.
    • Knowledge of accepted behavior management techniques and practices.
    • DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Literary Skills) Examiner.
    • Ability to assess students for progress and standards reports.
    • Knowledge of specialized teaching techniques for students with special needs or disabilities.
    • Demonstrate general proficiency in computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
    • Ability to operate standard office equipment.
    • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Strong listening skills.
    • Ability to follow detailed verbal and written instruction.
    • Ability to apply common sense understanding to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations.
    • Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with staff, students, parents and community members.
    • Perform all duties in accordance with Federal and State laws, district procedures and Board policies.

    QUALIFICATIONS
    • One year experience working with school age children
    • High School Diploma or equivalent
    • One year previous clerical experience
    • CPR and First Aid Certification preferred
    • Paraprofessional Certification preferred
    • Any equivalent combination of training, education and experience that meets minimum requirements

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, bend, stoop and walk. The employee may be required to occasionally lift up to 40 pounds.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT
    This position regularly works indoors (classroom) and outdoors (playground, etc.) in all kinds of weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is generally moderate and may become excessively noisy at times. Will have extensive contact with students, teachers, staff and the public.

    $16.14/hour - 9 Month YEAREND Position - 35 hours/week
