    Position Summary:

    The primary role of the literacy paraprofessional is to impact student achievement in reading and writing. This will be accomplished by providing targeted reading and writing instruction in phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension to small groups of students. A literacy paraprofessional will be expected to test students using reading screeners and benchmarking systems and continue to progress monitor students formally and informally during instruction.

    Primary Duties and Responsibilities
    • Assess students using district approved reading screeners and benchmarking systems
    • Progress monitor students, formally and informally
    • Utilize the data recording systems for reading screeners and benchmarks
    • Communicate with the literacy lead and/or teachers regarding student progress
    • Follow the direction of the school literacy lead, instructional coach, and/or administration in testing and grouping students, and compiling data
    • Support the maintenance of literacy materials at school site
    • Support school systems, classrooms, and activities when asked
    • Play an active role in students interventions, which may include before or after school tutoring

    Qualifications
    One year experience working with school age children
    High School Diploma or equivalent
    Any equivalent combination of training, education and experience that meets minimum requirements

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, bend, stoop and walk. The employee may be required to occasionally lift up to 40 pounds.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT
    This position regularly works indoors (classroom) and outdoors (playground, etc.) in all kinds of weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is generally moderate and may become excessively noisy at times. Will have extensive contact with students, teachers, staff and the public.

    $16.14/hour - 9 Month Position - 7 hours/day
