    POSITION SUMMARY
    The career and post-secondary school counselor will be responsible for working with all students to provide information regarding Career & Technical Education (CTE) programs within MUSD and JTED central programs. In addition, the career/post-secondary counselor will collaborate with middle and elementary school counselors in their feeder patterns by providing career pathway information. The counselor may facilitate and/or conduct parent and student workshops K-12 to promote MUSD CTE & JTED pathway information. The counselor will interface with MUSD Administration, especially the CTE Director, and will attend staff development sessions provided by MUSD, Pima County JTED, and various CTE conferences. The counselor will attend MUSD CTE meetings including building level PLC meetings.

    PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    Implementation of School Counseling Core Curriculum will include:
    • Design, deliver, evaluate, and revise a planned sequential and developmentally appropriate counseling curriculum (a minimum of 50% of contract time) to include classroom, small group, and individual counseling in:
      • career awareness and exploration
      • career and post-secondary goals
      • personal growth and understanding
      • prepare students for the transition to the next level: high school and post-secondary
    • Coordinate field trips for elementary and middle school students to their feeder pattern high school CTE programs
    • Coordinate with CTE Ambassadors and the Ambassador training.
    • Coordinate CTSO field trips
    • Coordinate various recognition programs and workshops on college planning, financial aid, and scholarships
    • Provide career center orientation/exploration activities for students and families
    • Conduct in-service programs for faculty, parents, and community members
    • Conduct or provide opportunities for parent education programs

    Implementation of Responsive Services will include:
    • Provide consultation and resources for teachers to facilitate the integration of career, academic and personal/social standards into both general and CTE curriculum
    • Provide appropriate resources and recommendations to families
    • Facilitate counseling support groups to meet the various personal, social, and academic needs of identified CTE students
    • Provide counseling to CTE students who are frequently tardy, absent, or who have disciplinary problems (or refer to next level of intervention)

    Implementation of Individual Student Planning may include:
    • Provide resources and information to assist in career awareness and career exploration activities and help students take appropriate steps toward implementing their educational and career plans.
    • Organize and participate in student study teams through consultation, collaboration, and teaming to determine optimal CTE student environment
    • Participates as needed at special education meetings to advocate for CTE students, as well as, collaborate and consult with teachers and parents about educational goals
    • Verify the required credits, classes, and assessments necessary to meet graduation and post-secondary goals, including standardized testing, assist CTE students course selection
    • Develop credit recovery and/or student study skills plan(s) for CTE students
    • Counsel and support individual CTE student planning through the development of social/emotional, educational and career goals
    • Help CTE students examine and build upon their personal strengths, abilities, interests, and talents

    Implementation of System Support:
    • Attend JTED central and district counselor meetings
    • Participate on CTE Program Advisory Committees
    • Complete monthly data and activity reports to the district CTE office
    • Follow suicide and self-injury protocol, Department of Child Safety (DCS) reporting, bully prevention, and harassment/sexual harassment issues
    • Support the workforce development needs in Pima County by promoting knowledge of postsecondary options
    • Proctor end of program and industry assessments as needed and decided upon with site administration
    • Uses available technology resources to enhance the school counseling program
    • Counselors will continually make data-driven decisions regarding the implementation of an ASCA model school program and share results
    • Establish, maintain and nurture community partners and resources
    • Advocate for equal access to programs and services for CTE students
    • Use data to plan, implement, and assess counseling program accurately and appropriately interpreting and utilizing student data
    • Collaborate with caseload counselors to ensure a career planning process for 9-12 students
    • Support campus-wide PBIS implementation
    • Develop, supervise, and maintain a Career/Post-Secondary Center

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
    • Possesses responsible and professional work habits
    • Ability to organize ideas and present them with clarity and conciseness in a variety of settings
    • Experience with computer programs and operations
    • Adhere to laws, policies, procedures, and ethical standards of the school counseling profession
    • Demonstrate leadership and utilize best practice in all situations
    • Strong time management and organizational skills

    QUALIFICATIONS
    Required Qualifications:
    • Masters degree in school counseling from an accredited college or university
    • School counselor certification from the AZ Department of Education
    • Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Demonstrated knowledge of the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Model
    • Experience CTE, career, and post-secondary programs
    • Experience working with any level of K-12 students and their families
    • Demonstrated Knowledge of Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS)

    Salary:
    $47,180.88 - $51,484.75 (based on 23-24 hiring schedule)
